Lougher 2nds 29 Ystradgynlais Athletic 12

Ystradgynlais Athletic lost their first game in 2008 to very well prepared Lougher second string.

The boys from ‘Llwchwr’ dominated up front pushing the Ystrad pack backward regularly at the scrumage. This gave Lougher the edge and was a large factor in the result.

The Blues pack found it hard to produce the quality clean ball the exiting back line craved for, with much of the scrappy ball having to be cleared by the halfbacks. When Ystrad did compete at break down they did cause mistakes, but it happened far to often.

The biggest positive of the day came from the boot of in form outside half Cellan Morgan who scored all of Ystrad’s points. He kicked a drop goal and three long distance penalties to make it a respectable score line.

Lougher could easily have added to their five unanswered tries if their backs were half the quality of their pack, but fortunately for the Blues their final pass went astray on many occasion.

This is a wake up call for the Blues development squad who now have to lift their heads and focus on their cup semi final versus Morriston in a months time. The Athletics next game is Skewen 2nds away on Saturday 22^nd March in the League.
