Ystradgynlais RFC News & Results0 CommentsAdd Comment Cwmtwrch 6 Ystradgynlais 20Cwmtwrch 6 Ystradgynlais 20 Ystradgynlais maintained their ten point lead at the top of Division five South West with a hard fought bonus point win against local rivals Cwmtwrch. It was no means a classic and continuity was lost with the lending of players and passive scrums, but at least it ensured the contest took place. There was a strong wind and the Blues capitalised on this first half to secure a fifteen point lead. Three tries coming from flamed haired Ian Evans, his wing colleague Kieron Jones and Ystrad’s answer to Mike Phillips, Daniel Holsgrove. The Mighty Blues were in control at half time but now faced a playing against the behemoth wind. Cwm took advantage of the elements with a long distance drop goal, followed up with a penalty to bring the score 15 – 6. What Cwmtwrch lacked in ambition or creativity they made up for in disrupting set pieces and frustration tactics. This allowed them to achieve their goal of keeping the score down. Ystrad did however manage to rise above it on one occasion with winger Ian Evans completing a brace of tries after a powerful break from flanker Kirt Thomas. Ystrad now face Glais RFC at the Recreation ground next week with the same goal of trying to gain a bonus point victory and maintain their top position. |
