Ystradgynlais RFC News & Results0 CommentsAdd Comment Ystrad Athletic 26 Abercraf 2nds 0Ystradgynlais Athletic 26 Abercraf 2nds 0 Ystrad athletic finished off the season with victory against their upper valley rivals Abercraf. A positive feeling could be felt in the club before kick off with 25 Ystrad players turning up keen to play a part in the friendly. The first half was extremely tight with both teams defending solidly and testing each other out up front. It was going to take something special to break the deadlock and the Blues flying winger Steffan Morgan didn’t disappoint. He scored a try that Shane Williams would have been proud off showing great pace and balance to beat several defenders. This left the Blues leading five nil at the interval. The 2nd half began positively for the Blues with a well worked try for replacement centre Owen Lock. The youngest of the famous Lock brothers beat two men and had the strength to cross over under the posts, leaving an easy conversation for outside half Cellan Morgan. Abercraf continued to battle and the introduction of Gary Evans in the back line added steel to their defence. Ystrad scored and opportunist try from replacement winger Alex Watkins, which outside half Morgan again converted. The final try came from Hooker for the day Ryan Evans who was returning from injury. He used his strength and showed a good change of pace to score a try any winger would have been proud off. Morgan again added the conversion from the touch line, to finish the game 26 – 0 to the Blues reserve team. This was the last game of the Season for the Athletic. As joint team Manager with Paul ‘Jamesy’ James I would like to thank the club coaching staff and Committee for their help and support, but my biggest thanks goes to the players who have battled every week for the club. |
